This small portable vinyl player works by spinning in circles on your records

Who needs mp3 players?

If you’ve ever dreamed of playing your favorite vinyl on the go, then this little portable wireless record player may be for you.

The RokBlok is a small block with built-in speakers that works like a needle by slightly overlapping the top of the vinyl – pull the lever to start playing the record, and hold your hand over the moving record player for it. Stop. You need a flat surface on which to rest the vinyl.

The device, which can also be connected wirelessly to Bluetooth speakers or headphones for more powerful sound, was designed by the San Francisco-based Pink Donut company, led by designer Logan Riley. A Launch campaign for the project was launched earlier in the year, with a pledge of $ 50,000. That goal has almost been met, and the RokBlok is expected to ship next September, at a retail price of $ 99.

There are obvious concerns about the damage the RokBlok could cause to your records, but speak to The edge, Riley assured that the use of rubber wheels “means that the center of gravity does not rest on the needle and thus prevents the widening of the grooves.” Maybe he’s on to something, but as one Editor gently underlined, “who listens to vinyl on the go?” [via The Verge]
